Kapa Haka Performance

Our Tainui Kapa Haka Group performed beautifully on Saturday
evening at the Bayfield Matariki concert. Tainui can be very proud
and it was a wonderful opportunity for the group to practice for the
Polyfest later in the year. A special thanks to Paulette and Komene for
the work they have done with the group and to Maia Smith for her
support. Thanks also to Jane Leslie and Tracey Cooper for the work
they have done with costumes and to all the other parents and
caregivers who have supported our Kapa Haka Group.

What we have been doing.

This has been a busy week for Tainui children with the Gym
Festival, a Miniball Competition at the Edgar Centre and
preparation for the Matariki Concert by the Kapa Haka Group at
Bayfield High School this weekend.
Junior children have been enjoying experiments about sand, salt and jelly crystals. The Middle School children have been learning about the science of popcorn. Senior Classes have been focusing on the first Scottish Settlers to Otago.

Week Six, Term Two

We have restarted “Reading Around the Rooms” on Fridays at
10.30. All staff members read in a different room in the school each
week. It is a lovely way to connect across the school and reinforce
the love of books.

Zumba has been very popular with our Senior children and
unfortunately the after school session on Mondays is full.
Hopefully there will be another opportunity next term.

Our Kapa Haka group has been invited to perform at the Bayfield
Matariki Concert on 18 June and each child in the group has a
permission slip which needs to be returned by Friday.

Donations are being invoiced this week and can be paid to the
office. They are tax deductible and help buy the extra resources for
the children.

National Young Leaders Day

On Monday 30th of May, we went to the Dunedin Town Hall to participate in the National
Young Leaders Day. We went there with Jacqui Fox in a taxi van.
We enjoyed speeches from Adam Hall, Allison Mooney, Pat Buckley, Alison Shanks and
Dave Atkinson. We all agreed that Dave Atkinson was the funniest. Apart from the
speakers and speeches, there was Charlie from What Now, lots of games and parts of
movies that showed leadership, difference and courage. We went back to school in the
taxi van as better leaders.
By Georgia, Sophie, Samantha and Brock!

The Senior Gym Festival is on 15 June and we have a group of 7 Hip Hoppers performing a display
item-Tumai, Brooklyn, Lily, Karamuu, Jaecob, Jemelia and Kaiya. All other Year 5 and 6 children
are performing their practised routines and skills.

Room 2 Spider Stories

If I were a spider
I’d have spinnerets to make silk
I’d have blue blood
I’d suck the juice
From my prey
I’d wrap my food up

If I were a house spider
I’d wrap up my food
I’d suck the insect’s blood
And I’d make a web to catch a fly
